Darian Cole, a retired special forces operative, takes a commission from Vincent Calvo, a New York port mafia boss, to raise funds for his mother's surgery: to sail out and retrieve Isabella, Calvo's only daughter who went missing on the high seas. Darian rescues Isabella from pirates on an abandoned cargo ship, setting off a desperate journey across the Caribbean. The spoiled mafia daughter initially looks down on the rough mercenary, but cannot resist the dangerous, primal allure he exudes—while Darian, in turn, develops an uncontrollable urge to protect the headstrong heiress. Hanging by a thread through pirate hunts, shark attacks, shipwrecks and adrift, and enemy mafia raids, the two are forced to surrender their trust and true feelings in the face of certain death. Back in New York, Darian is hired as Isabella's personal bodyguard to dig into the truth behind her disappearance. As the investigation deepens, it points directly to a rival mafia family: the Massari family. Operating under the cover of port cargo, they have built a transatlantic human trafficking network, transporting women and laborers like cattle to South America and Africa. But the deadliest truth lies buried in Darian's own bloodline—he is the sole survivor of Nico Corvara, the legendary mafia godfather whose family was massacred by the Massari family twenty-five years prior.
